Why should I study in china?

Would it be a good idea to study abroad in China?
The opening of China to Western students allowed me and many others to Study with Chinese students in China and establish life long relationships while learning how policy is implemented at the ground level.
Chinese culture is a very fraught area. Under the communist party we saw an attack on Chinese traditional culture not seen perhaps since the Qin dynasty. Now Chinese people are very Westernized while practicing some elements of Chinese culture. Without living and working in China it would be difficult to have any insight into this important area which will guide China’s role in the future as a superpower.
The second area is policy implementation. Looking at China’s media outlets we see a tsunami of rhetoric and policy announcements. But how these are implemented at the ground level is a very important understanding. China is being run by people who are the children of old CCP leaders. To some extent they honor the Marxist-Leninist ideas of their parents to establish their legitimacy while implementing more pragmatic actions designed to benefit the economy and appeal to popular aspirations.
Study in China also exposes you to students from around the world and you will make lifelong friends and gain insight into other countries and maybe even live and work there as well.
Finally a new generation of students from all over the world are going to China not so much for the educational aspect but for employment. China is a booming economy. It is open to foreign investment and so requires people who will live and work in China at a local level. I have students from Central Asia and Africa whose parents sent them to China to study in order to obtain work. They were given explicit instructions not to return as there are few employment opportunities in their countries.
Go to China. Enjoy the welcome and friendships. Watch a great power building. It will be the most life changing thing you ever did.
